Luc Besson Blasts the MCU
Calling films like Captain America "propaganda", French filmmaker Luc Besson unleashed his angry thoughts about the comic book genre. He said that he is "totally tired" of these films and that he only liked them ten years ago when we only had 'Iron Man' and 'Spider-Man'. He also claimed that movies like 'Captain America' too often "show the supremacy of America." This point is very difficult to back up when there are numerous comic books of similar titles from all around the world. In fact, there is one popular Marvel comic titled 'Captain Britain' which has been around since its first issue in 1976. If he is as confused as he suggested when he said “the superhero is working with another superhero, but it’s not the same family. I’m lost" then maybe the genre simply is not for him. Besson was behind plenty of thrilling films such as 'The Transporter', 'Taken', and 'The Fifth Element'. Sadly, his most recent flick 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets' has been by far the biggest box office failure of the year. With a production budget of $177.2 million, the movie has only made an estimated $114.8 million worldwide in its 25 days of release. Luc Besson may want to take notes from the highly profitable "propaganda" of the MCU if he would like to continue his career in film making.
